Childress Regional reports 'severe' patient-transfer difficulties

Childress Regional Medical Center reports they are at a “near worst-case scenario” in helping patients that need specialized care.

The rural hospital’s Chief Operating Officer Holly Holcomb released a statement Tuesday saying they are having extreme difficulty in securing transfers of patients that need more services than they can provide locally.

For both COVID-19 patients and patients with other medical issues, she said it is becoming nearly impossible to find larger hospitals with ICU beds and specialty medical staff that have the capacity to take their patients.

Childress County currently has 671 active COVID-19 cases in a population of 7,291.

CRMC reported a large outbreak of COVID-19 earlier in November with 671 cases among active offenders in the T.L. Roach state prison, located in the county.
