Republican U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady Will Retire From Congress At The End Of His Term

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady, R-The Woodlands, announced Wednesday morning that this will be his last term serving in the U.S. House.

First elected in 1996, Brady is one of the most senior members of the Texas delegation and a powerful player within the House Republican conference. The announcement was widely expected as he was facing a term limit in his role as the top Republican at the House Ways and Means Committee, which legislates tax law.

“I am retiring as your Congressman. This term, my 13th, will be my last,” he announced during remarks at the Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce Economic Outlook Conference. “I set out originally to give my constituents the representation you deserve, the effectiveness you want and the economic freedom you need. I hope I delivered.”

Brady is the second Texas member of Congress to announce that this would be his final term. Last month, Democratic U.S. Rep. Filemon Vela of Brownsville announced his own retirement.

Unfortunately, this seat is not a likely opportunity for a Democrat to win.

3. I don't know about nationwide, but in Texas there are only two.

The Democratic seat is more likely to flip than this seat for Rep. Brady. Texas is poised to gain three representatives due to redistricting--at least two will go to Republicans while the third seat remains a question mark.

5. About 20 years ago

he represented a different part of the state. It was in east Texas (Lumberton was a small town in his district). I worked for a franchisee of a certain well known video rental store. We had a store in Lumberton. I received a call at the office from one of his people asking if we could put a welcome message to him on our marquee on top of the store because he would be visiting the town in a few days. I responded with, "I'm sorry, but we won't be able to do that. Our company can't be seen as being political in any way." His person seemed dumbfounded

Of course, I just said that because I hate that bastard just as I hate all republicans. I'm just glad I was there to answer the phone. Had one of the franchise owners answered, they would have done it. I still consider it to be one of my proudest moments in life.
