State leaders lay out priorities

After a breakfast of eggs at the Governor’s Mansion, the state’s top three politicians addressed the Capitol press corps on Wednesday and reiterated their broad agenda for the legislative session.

Gov. Rick Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and House Speaker Joe Straus, all Republicans, talked about being in agreement on the same priorities that they have repeated in the months ahead of the 83rd legislative session that began Tuesday.

Building up the state’s water infrastructure, improving roads, creating a better-educated workforce and, of course, tax relief were the main topics at the press conference.

Just like the speeches of the Legislature’s first day, there were no details or plans for addressing the top pols’ priorities.
