Keystone Pipeline Hearing Tomorrow (1-17-2012)

Well, as the opponents to the Trans Texas Corridor made strange bedfellows, so will the opposition to this bloody pipeline. I just received this email. And, yes, I know about the political proclivities of the signers. Nevertheless, I think this is something we can all agree on.

I hope my deep East Texas friends will attend and raise nine kinds of hell.

Dear Friends:
We're writing to you today with urgent business regarding the TransCandada/Keystone XL Pipeline and apologize for the very late notice.

We also realize you may not be within distance to attend this important meeting tomorrow, but wanted you to know about this.

On Tuesday (1/17) a foreign corporation -- TransCanada -- will be testifying in front of the Reklaw City Council in Cherokee County to justify its operations in Texas, including the use of eminent domain to seize private property.

As someone who recently signed a petition calling for a hearing to look into eminent domain abuses in Texas, you understand the importance of protecting private property. TransCanada began by bullying landowners with threats of property condemnation, and now they’re ACTUALLY CONDEMNING private property in Texas.

If you believe that eminent domain should not be used to bully landowners, and if you live in the area (or know others who do and can contact them), we’d like to encourage you attend the meeting in Reklaw. Here are the details:

Where:530 Nacogdoches St., Reklaw, TX 75784 (off HWY 204)
When:5:30pm (arriving later also helps, but 5:30 is ideal)
What:We want to let TransCanada know that seizing private property doesn’t fly in Texas

We know folks are busy and not everyone receiving this lives in the area, but if you are available and able to make it the local governments and local landowners need to know they have your support.
Sincerely,
Linda Curtis, Independent Texans
Debra Medina, We Texans
Terri Hall, Texans Uniting for Reform and Freedom (TURF)
