MLK Day: Why I'm proud to make my alumni donation

I'm a 1987 graduate of Southwestern University who faithfully contributes to their scholarship fund. Southwestern's origins date to the 1840 charter with Rutersville University and in the late 1940's Southwestern changed their focus towards liberal arts education. While only 3% of the students are black (75% non-Hispanic white, 15% Hispanic), there is a sense of community fostered in the academic environment and demonstrated by the students. Note the diversity in the pictures which gives hope that our society (and Texas specifically) will become more diverse and inclusive.

Go Bucs!

Observance at the Red and Charline McCombs Student Center on campus. A free buffet meal was also provided.

The march moves off campus at Rutersville Drive and University Avenue (Texas Highway 29). For the young lady in the middle--these boots are made for walking.

The march continues at Austin Avenue and 7th street near the Williamson county courthouse (not shown).

About 1.5 miles later, the observance at Macedonia Baptist Church at 206 MLK Street in Georgetown.

Photos by Erica Grant.

Please pardon the vanity post and bragging, but I'm proud of the young ladies and gentlemen who decided to get involved!
