A Williamson County jury on Tuesday sentenced Carolyn Barnes to three years in prison for shooting at a census worker.
Barnes, a 56-year-old Williamson County attorney, was convicted Monday of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The jury deliberated almost five hours Tuesday before making its decision. Barnes could have received up to 20 years in prison.
Census worker Kathleen Gittel testified last week that she was trying to get the house number at Barnes home in Leander when she heard a gunshot and turned around and saw Barnes pointing a revolver at her. Gittel said Barnes yelled at her and also fired four gunshots at her back as Gittel fled from the scene on May 8, 2010.
Gittel was not injured.
