Republican Party leader Johnnie B. Rogers files motion to dismiss assault
The attorney for former Republican Party leader Johnnie B Rogers, who pleaded no contest to a Class A misdemeanor in the beating of a newspaper reporter last year, filed a motion Monday to release his client from probation and dismiss the charges.
Rogers was sentenced to a six month probationary period during which he was required to complete an anger management course, 50 hours of community service and pay a $500 fine for assaulting Burnet Bulletin reporter James Walker at a Republican Primary watch party on Burnet’s square in May last year.
The motion did not give any details on what community service was performed or details on the anger management course. Rogers’ attorney, Richard Davis, wasn’t helpful in providing any more information.
"Well it was discussed at the time of the plea that this would be coming,” Davis told a reporter in response to questions about the filing and terms of the probation.
When asked for specific information about completion of Rogers' community service and court proceedings, Davis responded: "I do not care to make any further comment. I don’t understand what’s so hard to understand about that. Would you prefer I don’t answer the phone next time?”
