Gov. Rick Perry, confusing Libya with Lebanon, preaches humility to Christian Conservatives in DC

WASHINGTON — Texas Gov. Rick Perry, speaking to Christian conservatives, urged them to approach the task of rebuilding the movement with humility.

“We need to understand that we’ve got a long way to go,” he told a crowd of perhaps 200 activists in a half-empty ballroom at the J.W. Marriott a block from the White House.

And he blasted President Barack Obama with a taunt that came with an oops.

“I fear where we’ve come to in America, where our administration won’t make one phone call to save our men and women in an embassy in Lebanon” – he apparently meant Libya, where a U.S. ambassador and three others died in September — “but they’ll sure monitor phone calls of 124 million Americans. …That bothers me,” Perry said.
