Democrat Mike Weinholtz sees run for governor as an opportunity to help people, party
SALT LAKE CITY Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mike Weinholtz was ready to begin a recent campaign news conference when one of the dozens of his sign-waving supporters gathered on the steps of the state Capitol suddenly shouted.
"Mike, we're behind you," a man yelled, prompting cheers.
Weinholtz, wearing a hot-pink necktie and breast cancer ribbon pin, turned away from the media waiting to hear his message on the failures of Republicans, including Donald Trump and Gov. Gary Herbert, to address the fair treatment of women.
"Thanks for being here," the first-time candidate and CHG Healthcare chairman, 62, told the group assembled for the evening event, taking a moment to acknowledge them before he and others launched into their concerns for the cameras.
