CNU poll shows Clinton winning Virginia in 2016

CNU poll shows Clinton winning Virginia in 2016

Monday, Mar. 3, 2014 by Trevor Baratko

A poll released Monday by Christopher Newport University's Wason Center for Public Policy shows Democrat Hillary Clinton winning Virginia in the 2016 presidential election, albeit narrowly in a hypothetical matchup against embattled New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

According to the survey of 901 registered Virginia voters, a contest between Clinton and Christie would be the Democrat's closest challenge, with Clinton edging the Republican 43 percent to 41 percent.

Clinton leads all Republican challengers in 2016 presidential matchups in battleground Virginia; GOP voters divided, but Christie, Bush top pack

Summary of Key Findings

1. Hillary Clinton has more than a friend in the Virginia Governor’s Mansion: Virginia voters like her, too. In head-t0-head matchups with a list of potential Republican challengers, Clinton beats them all.

2. Virginia Republican voters are very divided, but Christie and Bush get the most support in a hypothetical 2016 Republican primary.

3. Virginia Democrats strongly prefer Clinton over Biden and Warren.

4. President Obama’s approval is underwater in Virginia at 46% to 48%, but only 10% of voters approve of the job Congress is doing.

In a state that's gone blue in the last two elections...
In a state that just elected Dems to all its top offices....
In a poll conducted while Hillary Clinton remains, overwhelmingly, the most popular Democrat in the country, including the president...
In a poll conducted when Christie's poll numbers are nosediving as he gets further and further mired in scandal...

Under those circumstances, Hillary's lead over Christie in a head-to-head match-up doesn't even extend beyond the poll's margin of error.

If I were a Clintonista, I'd be deeply, deeply troubled by that poll.
