Charlottesville rally draws supporters of marijuana legalization

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Dozens of people gathered on the Downtown Mall on Sunday afternoon to rally for marijuana legalization, medical marijuana accessibility and political advocacy in the state and nation.

Organized by the Jefferson Area NORML — National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws — and Shirts With A Purpose, the first Cannabis Liberation Rally was held at the Free Speech Wall and included speakers, music and a march.

Speakers talked about the benefits of marijuana legalization and urged people to become involved in fighting marijuana prohibition, which has been undone in several states.

Jes Vegas, deputy director of NORML’s Virginia chapter and director of the Jefferson Area chapter, and Robert Rowley, owner of Shirts With A Purpose, organized and spoke at the event.
