Charlottesvile renames parks

I've mentioned Lee Park in posts here. It is now Emancipation Park. Jackson Park is now Justice Park

1. City Council handled this whole thing terribly

They go through the motions of asking for input from constituents by holding a contest to rename the parks, and then totally ignore what the citizens want and choose divisive names picked by council alone.

The top picks for Jackson Park include Court Square Park, Courthouse Park, the Commons, and Memory Park.

The top picks for Lee Park include Community Park, Central Park, Market Street Park, and Festival Park.

I have no problem renaming the parks but this was a meant to be a "thumb in the eye" to those who opposed renaming the parks.

2. I didn't keep up with this as it was happening,

because, as they say, I didn't feel like I had a dog in the fight.

I have had dealings with a few of the City Counselors at events and your characterization of their action fits my impression of them. I am not a constituent of theirs.
