Virginia gun-rights activist pranked by Sacha Baron Cohen in 'Kinderguardians' video

Virginia gun-rights activist pranked by Sacha Baron Cohen in 'Kinderguardians' video

BY GRAHAM MOOMAW Richmond Times-Dispatch 1 hr ago

Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen lured Virginia gun-rights activist Philip Van Cleave into participating in a satirical children's TV show in which Van Cleave held weapons decorated with stuffed animals and sang a song meant to teach children to aim for the head.

Baron Cohen, a prankster best known for his 2006 mockumentary "Borat," has drawn several high-profile political figures into potentially embarrassing setups for his new Showtime series "Who is America?"

The show is also expected to feature appearances by former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has called Baron Cohen "evil" and "sick" for allegedly posing as a wounded military veteran to trick her into an interview.

The first episode, which aired Sunday night, featured Van Cleave, the president of the pro-gun Virginia Citizens Defense League, in a segment focused on America's gun culture. Van Cleave, an influential gun lobbyist at the General Assembly who organizes an annual pro-gun rally on Capitol Square attended by prominent Republican politicians, could not immediately be reached for comment Monday morning.
