Northam is in enough trouble but this isn't part of it.

Graham Moomaw Retweeted

Northam is in enough trouble but this isn’t part of it. The early black arrivals in the British North American colonies, and likely those at Jamestown, were often given the status of indentured servants. The slave system took time to evolve in the 17th century. @GayleKing

Pointing out that the early servants here were indentured servants is part of the story/language you hear from the slave excusers and the Lost Cause types. I've heard it for years. It's akin to ammosexuals getting all technical with words and displaying their expertise. Both use this as a way of trying to dominate a discussion as the more informed person AND it tends to soak up most of the time in a discussion. It's an asshole diversionary tactic.
