Severe weather outlook, as of Friday morning.
STORM PREDICTION CENTER
Conditions will be favorable for severe storms with damaging wind and tornadoes across Virginia this afternoon and evening.
Have a plan to stay aware of any watches or warnings issued by the National Weather Service later today.
10:30 a.m. update
So far, things are quiet in central Virginia. Showers and thunderstorms are moving northward out of North Carolina, and that activity could get to the Richmond area by midday or early afternoon.
To our west, one storm between Rocky Mount and Martinsville has already prompted tornado warnings in that area. A tornado watch is now in effect until 5 p.m. for southwest Virginia and the western Piedmont.
