BIG CHANGE in "state job" applications and wage calculation. Va. DU'ers LOOK INTO THIS

We got an email on Thursday from the Governor. Thy are doing away with that horrifically archaic application system and will now accept resumes. The DHRM application system is fraught with chances for errors, arduous as hell, and never let's you see what the finished product looks like.

The effort here is to recruit and retain people as employees of the Commonwealth- I used "state jobs" in the subject line for brevity and a bit of a joke.

LOOK INTO THIS whether you are young and want a safe productive long career OR if you are in the twilight of your working years. Trust me, you've never had a job like one of these. Professional protected (no not slack - after a year you will have RIGHTS you just don't find in the private sector) and a lot of options in terms of where to work. I got in before th pension plan closed but the benefits are out of this world (let's say hypothetically a family of three - less than $300 premium/month $600 deductible and $3K out of pocket max per year for HEALTH CARE). I wish I'd started working here YEEEEEARS ago.

The new version will get rid of salary history, school name, age indicator, and other fields that have a potential for unconscious bias.

Applicants will also be able to select their preferred pronoun and be allowed to submit only a resume and personal information for consideration.

According to a release, this will also be the first time that a person seeking a state job will be able to use a mobile device to submit their application.

Under the revisions to the State Compensation Policy, provisions basing starting pay and future salary adjustments on previous or existing salaries will be eliminated.

All salary actions will also be based on three salary factors, experience, competencies for the position, and relevant credentials.

Finally, it aims to make sure that the salaries of state employees with comparable credentials who are doing comparable work are fairly aligned.
