Plan ahead: Several weekend road closures likely to backup traffic

SEATTLE -- If you're planning on driving around the Seattle area this weekend, start planning now.

From 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, all westbound lanes of state Route 520 between 92nd Avenue Northeast in Clyde Hill and Montlake Boulevard will be closed, according to Washington state Department of Transportation.

On state Route 99 in Seattle, all southbound lanes of the tunnel will be closed for routine maintenance from 10 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday.

Headed northbound on SR 99 this weekend? You might want to try an alternate route.

All northbound lanes between South Spokane Street and Harrison Street will be closed for concrete panel repair from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, according to WSDOT.

I sure wish there had been some signage on Thursday afternoon as we were heading westbound on I-90, all at once, Interstate was closed at Vantage. No warning at all, just closed. State Troopers parked on side of the road were giving NO traffic direction. Truckers parked all along the interstate - it was a total mess. No one knowing where to go. They finally said we had to detour to Wenatchee and go all around and back up to Ellensburg. What a cluster! traffic miles long zig zagging through the desert, 100 extra miles out of our way and with a car full of dogs.

Seems there was an oil tanker leaking on the Vantage bridge all over the westbound lanes. GRRRRRRRR
