Seattle to invest $110 million into affordable housing, largest investment in city's history

Seattle will invest more than $100 million this year into building nearly 2,000 more affordable housing units in the city, Mayor Jenny Durkan announced Monday.

It represents the largest affordable housing investment in a single year in Seattle's history. The funds will help construct 13 new buildings in Seattle that will be geared toward several communities including seniors, low-wage workers and people experiencing homelessness.

“Over the last three years, we have made monumental and historic investments in affordable housing. With nearly 900 city funded affordable homes that came online this year and another 3,400 expected to come online in the next few years, we have created a true partnership to deliver on affordability in our city,” Durkan said in a statement.

“Seattle is committed to investing in housing and services that help advance our shared priorities of equity and inclusion. With investments in both permanent supportive housing for individuals experiencing homelessness, affordable housing for seniors, and housing for working families, we are addressing our affordability crisis.”
