Adam Smith deserves some good feedback for standing against indefinite detentions.
I'm trying to get the LD and county organizations whose territory includes the 9th CD (11, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 33, 34, 47 LDs and King, Pierce and Thurston Counties) to send the following letter to him
Dear Congressman Smith:
The NDAA legislation has unfortunately passed and been signed into law. The indefinite detention provisions were opposed, not only by organizations such as the ACLU, but also by virtually every national security official, including Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, CIA Director David Petraeus, FBI Director Robert Mueller, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, White House Advisor for Counterterrorism John Brennan, and DOJ National Security head Lisa Monaco. President Obama expressed reservations in a signing statement, but signed anyway.
We of the ____ Legislative District Democrats strongly commend your stand against these provisions, particularly your statement on the House floor as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee. Even though fear won the day, it is some consolation to know that at least one of our representatives had the courage to do the right thing.
