State Rep. Matt Shea, expelled from the Republicans' House caucus, will not resign and says that, like President Donald Trump, he is the victim of a "sham investigation."
The Spokane Valley legislator helped plan "an act of domestic terrorism against the United States," according to an investigation done for the state House of Representatives by the Rampart Group LLC, a firm headed by a former FBI agent. The firm's 108-page report was shared Thursday with Shea's House colleagues.
Rep. J.T. Wilcox, House Minority Leader, immediately threw Shea out of the GOP Caucus, stripped Shea of committee assignments, said Shea will not be permitted at caucus meetings and will need to find a new office. The response of ostracism has been successfully deployed by Republican leaders in Congress to force the immediate resignation of members embroiled in scandal.
Shea, a six-term lawmaker from the 4th District, responded with this Facebook post:
"Like we are seeing with our President, this is a sham investigation meant to silence those of us who stand up against attempts to disarm and destroy our great country. I will not back down. I will not give in. I will not resign. Stand strong, fellow Patriots.
