Kitsap County designates more federal relief funding for housing assistance

Kitsap County is once again extending housing aid for residents faced with economic troubles, with concerns about an impending surge of people who can’t make rent or pay their mortgage because of the COVID-19 crisis.

Kitsap County officials announced Tuesday the county will allocate an additional $525,000 in federal coronavirus relief funding for rental and mortgage assistance for low-income residents who have lost their jobs or seen their income drop because of the pandemic's economic impact.

The short-term assistance, which will be offered through social services nonprofit Kitsap Community Resources (KCR), will cover housing bills for up to three months for residents making below 80% of the area median income.

"These funds will make an important difference to hundreds of Kitsap County families during this difficult time and we are proud to partner with Kitsap Community Resources to make this happen,” Kitsap Commissioner Charlotte Garrido said in a public statement.
