Space Needle reopens Monday with new technology, enhanced cleaning measures

After a 6-month closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Seattle's iconic Space Needle will reopen to visitors Monday with new enhanced cleaning measures and new UV-C light technology to ensure visitor and staff safety during the pandemic.

Perhaps Seattle's most popular tourist destination, the Space Needle closed in early March as the pandemic spread through the state. The much-anticipated reopening shows how the city is finding its "new normal" especially during Seattle's peak tourism season.

The attraction is reopening with a new initiative called "Elevating Clean" that will focus on creating a safe experience for both guests and staff.

Following Gov. Jay Inslee's statewide mask mandate, face coverings will be required and provided to guests when entering. Touchless sanitizing stations are also available, and tickets will be for timed slots to help reduce crowding and ensure social distancing.

With the timed entry, mandatory masking, and reduced capacity I think it can be done safely. SeattleVet Aug 2020 #2

Essentially the same model that the Seattle Aquarium has adopted. I volunteer there one day a week, and using these measures (with additional cleaning/sanitizing of surfaces) I feel perfectly safe interacting (at a 6' distance) with our guests.

The reopening plans of these venues have to be submitted and approved by various offices within the city and county (and possibly state, for some venues).

Meanwhile, our brewery just fell under the new restrictions and had to close service in the taproom once again.
