Washington to put $100 million toward rental assistance amid coronavirus pandemic
Washington officials will distribute $100 million for rental assistance across the state to help prevent people from losing their homes during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Washington State Department of Commerce is giving out the funds from the CARES Act for a rental assistance program to help people pay up to three months of rent that is either past due, current or will be owed moving forward.
Funds addressing Washingtons homelessness crisis were limited before the pandemic, and the need is deepening as this pandemic continues to push more people toward the brink while we work to carefully reopen our economy, Commerce Director Lisa Brown said in a statement. We are targeting limited resources as quickly and equitably as possible, to those with the greatest needs.
The department will distribute the funds through the Consolidated Homeless Grant program lead grantees and organizations serving the Office of Homeless Youth across the state.
