As Lockdown Nears, WA Officials Caution Against Hoarding Supplies

OLYMPIA, WA — As the state prepares to implement new restrictions on grocery stores, restaurants and other businesses until mid-December, state leaders are pleading with Washingtonians to avoid stockpiling supplies.

"Nobody is talking about closing grocery stores," the Washington Emergency Management Department wrote on Twitter Saturday. "Supply chains will remain healthy if we all buy only what we need. Please respect grocery store limitations on supplies and plan ahead."

On Sunday, Gov. Jay Inslee announced a series of new restrictions on indoor spaces to combat a rapidly growing surge in coronavirus cases. The governor's order includes 25 percent capacity limits for all retail and grocery stores and rolls back indoor service at bars and restaurants. Most of the rules will take effect at 11:59 p.m. Monday, while requirements for bars and restaurants begin Wednesday at 12:01 a.m.

Inslee cautioned against hoarding supplies in the news conference and later repeated his plea on social media.

I really conserve paper towels and so I will get by, but have ordered toilet paper from three different retailers, only to have them cancel that from the order just before I went to pick up.

So, F>>k it. Sam's had those big 45-roll boxes of (somewhat sandpaper-like) commercial individually wrapped rolls this morning and I grabbed one. I really don't give a damn at this point. The rest of the world can fight over Charmin or whatever "squeezably soft" stuff is still out there. Have at it.

I went to Amazon for routine paper towel and tp purchases and found my favorite brands as well as the ones I settled on last time both unavailable. My husband told me about the paper goods shortages so I went back to Amazon and ordered what I could get to tide me over. The price gouging looks like its coming back too.
