Inslee: Employers can now seek proof that workers are at high risk for Covid
Last year, Gov. Jay Inslee made it possible for anyone with a high risk of contracting Covid-19 or dying from it to seek safer work arrangements or stay home no questions asked.
If employees said they were at high risk from the infection, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), employers weren't allowed to ask them to prove it.
That changed last week when the governor lifted some protections for workers during the pandemic and cleared the way for employers to ask for proof that employees indeed face especially great risks from the virus.
On Thursday, Inslee said business owners and managers can now request a medical professionals opinion about an employee's Covid-19 risk or whether that worker could return to work with certain accommodations in place.
