Seattle Housing Authority promotes Rod Brandon to executive director
After a national search, the Board of Commissioners of the Seattle Housing Authority has named one of the agency's own, Rod Brandon, as executive director to replace Andrew Lofton, who will retire May 7 after 17 years with SHA.
Brandon has been SHAs director of housing operations since 2010, leading the agencys largest department with approximately 400 staff serving more than 17,000 residents in approximately 8,500 housing units.
All total, SHA employs around 600 people and provides rental housing and assistance to around 37,500 people in 18,650 households. Nearly 80% of those served are children, elderly or are disabled. The authority's annual budget is between $250 million and $300 million, with most funding from the federal government.
SHA is in the midst of one of the region's largest redevelopments, turning Yesler Terrace into a mixed-income community that includes a $500 million-plus Kaiser Permanente health care facility. Next up for SHA is a project with the city of Seattle to redevelop an 8.5-acre multifamily property in Seattle's Northgate neighborhood.
