Inslee urges action on housing, climate in State of the State speech
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee stressed urgency in solving the homelessness crisis and reversing economic disparities in his annual State of the State speech, which he delivered remotely to the Legislature on Tuesday.
Much of Inslee's speech touted items from his proposed $62 billion supplemental budget, released in December, including funds for housing and behavioral health services, which he called critical to helping people out of long-term homelessness.
Inslee said the proposed budget includes an "unprecedented" $815 million to house people experiencing homelessness and create more options for those struggling with housing availability.
He also urged legislation to allow more housing options in cities, such as duplexes and townhomes for people at various income levels.
