Wash. state reports 43 percent increase in breakthrough COVID-19 cases

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Washington State is nearing 125,000 breakthrough COVID-19 cases.

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) said early Thursday it has seen a recent 43 percent increase in statewide breakthrough cases.

From Jan. 17, 2021, to Jan. 1, 2022 the state reports 123,365 breakthroughs. Although most of those infected have had minor symptoms, there were three percent hospitalized.

Washington state has 4.8 million vaccinated residents, breakthrough cases make up about 2.5 percent of the vaccinated. Health officials are urging you to get vaccinated to continue avoiding COVID-19 and hospitalization.
