As carriers cut routes across US, Alaska Airlines restores flights from Everett's Paine Field

Alaska Airlines revived nine of its routes out of Paine Field in late December, bringing the Snohomish County airport sharply closer to its pre-pandemic normal as it prepares for more activity in 2022.

The routes are all set to begin in January, connecting the region with sunny locales favored by leisure travelers such as Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Diego and Palm Springs, California.

“With this new [Covid-19] variant it’s hard to tell what will happen with schedules, but it seems like they’re holding ours,” said Brett Smith, president and CEO of Propeller Airports, which operates the commercial terminal at Paine Field. “It seems to be coming back and the demand is certainly there.”

The resumed routes bring the airport up to 12 destinations – still just half of its pre-pandemic capacity. That’s following the departure of United Airlines in October, which has left an opening the company expects to fill in the latter half of 2022.
