Amazon expands convenience store business to Snohomish County
Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) is opening a tech-infused convenience store in Snohomish County, a sign it has no intention of slowing the expansion of its network of grocery stores.
The Seattle-based retail giant said Tuesday it was opening an Amazon Go store the older, smaller brother of the company's Amazon Fresh grocery stores in Mill Creek in the coming months. Mill Creek records show a permit filed on Sunday by Amazon requesting installation of a "coming soon/now open" banner.
The store will feature Amazon's cashierless "Just Walk Out" technology, which debuted in 2018 in the first Amazon Go in downtown Seattle, and has since spread to its other retail locations like Fresh and Whole Foods, and to a Starbucks/Amazon hybrid store in New York City.
The store will go into a roughly 6,200-square-foot retail space built in 2019 at 13209 39th Ave. SE. Amazon didn't disclose when it began leasing the space, but last May tenant-improvement permits were filed for fixtures, restrooms and finishes, and then another was filed in October for refrigeration units.
