Railway strike averted after tentative agreement reached, Biden announces overnight

SEATTLE — A tentative deal reached overnight between railroads and union reps, President Joe Biden announced overnight, averted a strike that could have shut down railway lines across the country.

The two sides had been at the table for 20 hours, Biden said.

A strike could have been catastrophic for the economy and people commuting to work in Seattle and throughout the nation.

Locally, a strike would have stopped Sounder and Amtrak trains, forcing thousands of commuters onto buses.
