Marysville survey asks residents for thoughts on growth, housing

MARYSVILLE — Marysville is asking for input on how to best accommodate future population growth.

The public can provide feedback via a survey, available at surveymonkey.com/r/JG9MRKB. The eight-question survey asks what mix of housing types would work best for Marysville, where density should be added, and what concerns residents have regarding greater density.

The city’s population is 72,380, according to estimates from the state’s Office of Financial Management. Marysville is the second-most populous city in Snohomish County, second to Everett.

Like other cities in Western Washington, Marysville has seen rapid growth. Between 2011 and 2021, the population jumped from 60,672 to 71,250, or an additional 10,578 people. That’s about a 17% increase over 10 years.

I am shocked! A city is actually asking its own citizens for thoughts on future growth, etc. SWBTATTReg Sep 2022 #1

Usually, the plans are already drawn up by developers and landowners that would score big while the rest of us are left holding the bag/dealing w/ the undesirable part of the anticipated development, e.g., increased traffic, more road snarls, more congestion, more students in too small of a school district not able to handle them, Sewer and water systems having to be updated at massive cost to ALL residents, kind of unfair since it was the new people on the block that are causing the increase in system usage, etc.
