Downtown Seattle movie theater set to close as businesses continue to struggle

Regal Meridian 16 is the latest business to close up shop in downtown Seattle. Business Insider reported Thursday the downtown Seattle location is one of the 39 Regal locations closing nationwide after Cineworld, the movie theater’s parent company, filed for bankruptcy.

The news of the closure came the day before the Nike store, located just down the street, is set to close.

“Downtown is not downtown anymore," said Christal Fields. "It’s changing tremendously.”

That’s a common opinion from people familiar with downtown Seattle and from those who work in the area.
