Seattle mayor says downtown activation, fentanyl plan coming within weeks

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell said an executive order on the fentanyl crisis will now be issued early next month amidst pressure from downtown and civic leaders to act on a promised plan to reenergize the city’s core.

On Tuesday, Downtown Seattle Association (DSA) President Jon Scholes publicly applied pressure on the mayor, seated just in front of him, at the "State of Downtown" speech in front of 1,300 business and civic leaders.

“We can have a revitalized thriving downtown with restaurants, retail, arts and culture, or we can have a fentanyl market," Scholes said. "We can’t have both."

He, along with Chamber President Rachel Smith and Mary Ebersole, the executive director of the Washington branch of the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, co-signed a five-page letter to Harrell outlining ideas and requests for downtown.
