According to the New York Times, Sinclair Broadcasting Group a conservative news network run by GOP donor Daniel Smith is requiring affiliate stations to run right- wing programming that includes debunked stories favorable to President Donald Trump.
With Sinclairs potential acquisition of Tribute Media Group, concerns that they might exert their allegedly pro-Trump bias over a majority of American news stations is growing.
The article claims that Sinclair requires news stations they own to broadcast must-runs news packages created by the network such as one issued by the companys vice president of news Scott Livingston that decried biased media and positioned themselves as bastions of journalistic objectivity. Stations are reportedly required to broadcast these must-runs within 48 hours of receiving them from the network.
Sinclair currently owns 173 stations in many large media markets, and with their purchase of Tribune, they would own 42 more and could then control up to 70 percent of all American broadcast media.

I just sent KOMO a message condemning this crap. I have been listening to their radio station as an alternative to right wing hate radio since Air America's demise. Now I will have to find another station. Same with local TV news. KOMO Seattle just lost a bunch of people in my family. I will badmouth them to everyone. My mom and MIL watched that one for years because it was just before WHEEL OF FORTUNE. MIL will just have to use the remote. Mom had switched to CNN before she died because she hated Trump so much and wanted to know what he was up to so she could yell at him. We don't listen to criminal shitgibbon propaganda in our house. Bye bye Steve Poole.
Hope others will drop them a postcard:

(8,554 posts)and thanks for this heads-up about them.
I've usually favored KOMO, mainly because they've always seemed to be the network that would be sure to send a reporter up here to cover any news happening in my area. I noticed last Fall that something seemed to be going haywire in that studio in their coverage of the Election so I began watching only about half an hour of their news (cause I do like Pool's weather since he also doesn't just focus on Seattle Metro area).
They had a nasty piece on there this weekend about the Resistance; practically in the very first sentence she began talking about violent demos, then a bunch of skeevy kerap about the town halls...she didn't actually call it paid protestors, but the implication was there. We never listened to the rest of her bullshit "report".
This is maddening and I wonder what the local staff will do.
