Dirt on McKenna

Post more as you find it

http://blogs.seattletimes.com/politicsnorthwest/2012/07/16/mckenna-staffer-apologizes-for-tweets-about-asians-the-elderly/#.UATclAOqIso.facebook

Gubernatorial candidate Rob McKenna said Monday afternoon that a pair of months-old tweets sent by one of his staffers, appearing to mock Asians and the elderly, were “insensitive and wrong.”

The tweets, sent by Kathlyn Ehl before she joined the McKenna campaign in April, gained attention earlier Monday after The Stranger published them. They were quickly deleted, but remained accessible as archived website copies.

One tweet, sent in January, said “shut up and speak english #asians.” The other, from November, read, “If it takes you an entire green light to walk in front of my car GET A WHEELCHAIR #toooldtowalk.”

“The tweets sent by a member of my campaign staff, Kathlyn Ehl, were offensive and inappropriate,” McKenna, the state’s attorney general, said in a statement that was set to be released to the media Monday evening. ” They were insensitive and wrong regardless of the context.”

1. But still present tense: 'a member of my campaign staff.' Really, Robby?

Those weren't some flip remarks, that showed a long time attitude, probably with some practice. Just gives one pause to think what goes on inside the back room of the McKenna campaign.

He's Rove's puppet, went against the ACA behind Gregoire's back to please his GOP masters. His joining the lawsuit to end the ACA on ideological, not humane grounds, should be thrown in his face. This shows what the tone of a McKenna tenure.

Just think, he can put this staffer in charge of human services. Or outreach to the immigrant communities of Washington. I haven't seen such a backward statement towards Asians in my time here, where is she from?

His association with out of state GOP operatives should be thrown in his face. And he's still got this piece of work on his staff. Why is that, can't find a way to fire her, is she higher in the GOP than him?

Having him for Governor would be a nightmare.

2. From Planned Parenthood Votes NW

You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep.

Yesterday, McKenna had "Mr. Transvaginal Ultrasound," Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, as the headliner at his fundraising event in that state. This is the governor who pushed for intrusive and unnecessary transvaginal ultrasound requirements in Virginia and has called the Affordable Care Act a "blow to freedom."

Is this the Washington we would have with McKenna as our leader?

Sign this petition now and let's show Rob McKenna that Washington wants a governor who stands with women 100 percent of the time, not someone who plays politics with women's health.

Women of Washington deserve better. Jay Inslee is the only candidate for governor who supports protecting abortion access under insurance, who fought to defend Planned Parenthood during the defunding effort in Congress and who supported benefits like birth control without co-pays in the Affordable Care Act every step of the way.

3. Ryan and McKenna miss connecting with each other today

Meanwhile, we had one more “One Question” for the McKenna camp about the top of the ticket. Given that lightning-rod GOP VP nominee Paul Ryan is in town today (while McKenna—synchronicity again?—is in Moses Lake), we asked McCray what McKenna thought about Ryan and, in particular, his voucher-based Medicare proposal.

McCray says: “Rob believes that Paul Ryan’s VP nomination focuses more debate on budget issues, which is appropriate. But Rob’s focus on state policy issues leaves little time for Medicare study.”

4. McKenna Disneyland fundraiser was on the public dime!

Spread the word on this

Today a story in Publicola revealed that Rob McKenna traveled to Disneyland and hosted a campaign fundraiser on the public dime. When is McKenna going to pay for my trip to Disneyland? On the other hand, I'd rather keep Medicaid funding for seniors in nursing homes, which Republican governors are cutting substantially.
