Boeing warns Washington state of 220 Seattle-area layoffs

Boeing has warned Washington state economic development officials of up to 220 permanent layoffs starting Sept. 22, public records show.

Boeing notified affected employees on July 11, spokesman Doug Alder said. They include Boeing Commercial Airplanes workers, Defense employees and corporate staff.

The Washington state Employment Security Department received Boeing's mass layoff warning Friday. ESD spokesman Bill Tarrow said the cuts include 211 employees represented by labor unions, but that Boeing did not list specific locations in the Puget Sound region.

He declined to provide more information.

...US corporation. Their earnings are highest since 2009.

Additionally, they received tax breaks from Washington state then cut jobs after stating they wouldn't.

I don't mind tax money assisting those who need it. However, Boeing clearly isn't in need. Boeing has for decades held Washington state hostage to their demands for 'tax breaks' to remain in Washington. This isn't the first time Boeing has broken their agreed upon terms; it's the first time Washington state is deciding to legislate 'teeth' to prevent corporations from legislating the pocketbook of state government.
