Challenger Brown closes on Republicans' McMorris Rodgers -- poll
The Democrats' star U.S. House challenger in Washington, Lisa Brown, is closing fast on incumbent U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, a member of the House Republican leadership, according to a new poll.
The survey by Public Policy Polling gives McMorris Rodgers 48 percent, with Brown just behind at 45 percent. Brown is a former chancellor of Washington State University-Spokane.
The poll was taken April 16-17 and surveyed 689 voters in the 5th Congressional district of Eastern Washington. McMorris Rodgers has won easy reelection victories since capturing the seat in 2004.
The survey tracks fairly closely with a recent poll taken for several Inland Empire news organizations by Elway Research, the state's leading poll taker. It gave McMorris Rodgers a 44-38 percent lead with 16 percent undecided.
