Schrier likely Rossi foe in 8th, Smith vs. Smith in 9th
Dr. Kim Schrier, an Issaquah pediatrician and first time candidate, has apparently won a November ballot position to face off against three-time statewide Republican nominee Dino Rossi in the 8th Congressional District.
Schrier held her narrow lead over Issaquah attorney Jason Rittereiser as King, Pierce and Chelan counties reported their latest totals in a congressional district that spans the Cascades. With the vote count in from Kittitas County, where Rittereiser is a native, the Scyhrier lead totaled 1,047 votes.
The 8th District has never elected a Democrat, but not for want of trying. Retiring incumbent GOP Rep. Dave Reichert had four tough races before he was given Republican-leaning Central Washington counties in the post-2010 redistricting.
Still, the district was carried by Hillary Clinton in 2016 and is tops on the target list of national Democrats, hoping to take control of the U.S. House of Representatives and put a check on the Trump administration.
Rossi is a warhorse of Republican politics. He has run twice for Governor, and lost a 2010 challenge to U.S. Sen. Patty Murray. He has tapped the business community to raise more than $3 million, has backing from such power conservatives as the Club for Growth, and is known for staying rigidly on-message.
Dislodging or distracting Rossi will be a dilemma for the Democrats.

Rossi's lost the last three races he's been in. While I wouldn't underestimate him he's not that powerful.
