EVERETT Enjoy the blue sky for a few hours. Brown smog is returning.
Wildfire smoke is expected to inundate the Puget Sound region again, starting Sunday, and could reach dangerous levels Monday and Tuesday, the National Weather Service said. This was not unexpected, but the forecast is more certain now.
The agencys Seattle forecast center issued a special statement Friday explaining that the wind is expected to shift again, bringing low-level smoke from fires in British Columbia. Hundreds of wildfires are burning there and in Washington and Oregon.
The surface flow pattern will turn offshore and northerly on Sunday, the Weather Service said. Smoke from British Columbia fires is likely to spread south into Western Washington. Northern areas will be affected first, but eventually all of Western Washington could have thick smoke near the surface.
It is possible, the Weather Service said, that air quality on Monday and Tuesday could return to the unhealthy levels of earlier this week, when health officials recommended that even fit people avoid exertion outdoors and that others remain inside, if possible.
Oh, and it will be hot early next week.
Temperatures on Monday and Tuesday will be in the 80s to low 90s, the Weather Service said. Current forecasts call for a marine push Tuesday night or Wednesday that will cool things off and also push most of the smoke out of the area.

(3,289 posts)I have both asthma and COPD so I know how difficult it can be when the air is bad. Sometimes it is a battle even under normal conditions and heat along with smoke just exacerbates it.
I was in the Seattle area a few years back and really enjoyed the area. We drove up to Victoria and Whistler ski resort. Summer so not much at whistler but the scenic drive up there was fantastic.
Stay well.

(6,831 posts)It was so bad last week, the sky was brown with particulates (from all the fires) haze, to the point where you could not see the ridgelines of the mountains. Couldn't see Mt. Baker at all. The air smelled of smoke.
I took two steps out my front door and my eyes started to sting. Back in the house, closed all the windows, cranked up the A/C and put drops in the eyes.
Not looking forward to any of that returning.
But want to take a moment to give a shout out to all of the American and Canadian firefighters and smoke-jumpers out there battling these blazes. It's hard, grueling, nasty, dirty, exhausting work. And dangerous. To all of you - thank you for your dedication and remember to be ever vigilant - these bastards can jump at any time (but then you know that) - take care of yourselves and each other. Good luck, stay safe and God bless.
