Connelly: Samsung settles price fixing case, will pay Washington $29 million
Samsung will pay $29 million to Washington consumers, concluding a price fixing lawsuit by Attorney General Bob Ferguson against seven manufacturers for cathode ray tubes, or CRTs, a technology once essential in TV screens and computer monitors.
The manufacturer signed a consent decree, filed in King County Superior Court, bringing a total of $39.35 million paid by defendants in the AG's case.
"When powerful interests illegally conspire behind closed doors to drive up the cost of these products, Washingtonians lose out," Ferguson said Tuesday in a statement.
The Attorney General took on a who's-who of major players in the electronics industry. Defendants included Samsung, Panasonic, Hitachi, Chungwha, Toshiba and Phillips. The price fixing took place between 1995 and 2007.
