AG vs. AG in Washington: Ferguson backs I-1631, carbon fee initiative, counters McKenna

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson, countering his Republican predecessor, has filmed a television ad supporting Initiative 1631, the measure that would impose a fee on the state's major emitters of greenhouse gases.

The action by Ferguson follows a saturation anti-1631 TV campaign, paid for by major oil companies, featuring ex-Attorney General Rob McKenna, now an attorney in private practice whose clients include Chevron.

Chevron has donated $500,000 to the anti-I-1631 campaign.

"Twenty-seven million bucks, that's what Big Oil's spending to mislead you on I-1631: They want you to keep paying for asthma and heart disease, instead of using their huge profits to clean up our air and water. That's why this Attorney General is saying Yes on 1631," Ferguson says in the ad.
