RENTON, WA After a week when gay Pride displays have been vandalized in Renton and Seattle, a religious group is aiming to shut down a teen Pride event at the Renton King County Library slated for Saturday.
On Thursday, a Christian media personality named Elizabeth Johnston urged her nearly 700,000 Facebook followers to contact the King County Library System to get the teen Pride event cancelled. Johnston took particular issue with the event offering safe sex tips, and because there will be a raffle offering a breast binder, which transgender men use to flatten breasts.
"Locals should threaten to picket them daily for pandering obscenity to minors!" Johnston wrote in the post.
Many of Johnston's recent Facebook posts are about shutting down LGBTQ or Pride events across the U.S. The post also includes a photo of a nearly naked man dressed in drag. That image, however, has no affiliation with the Renton library event, according to KCLS.
But the protest comes at the end of a week of anti-LGBTQ incidents in Puget Sound. Most notably, a Pride display at the United Christian Church in Renton was damaged in an arson, and the FBI has been called in to investigate.

Can people who have fundamentally different beliefs live together in peace? It seems like most of us could (even with some vigorous debates on issues, mind you). However, fundamentalist Christians have unfortunately bought into the idea that they are following the "One True Way"®️ and are mentally trapped in a narrow perspective. They have to put their foundational beliefs into question to break out and few are willing to do that.

The more informed, thinking Christian would notice that light/energy doesn't contain sex organs. Jesus doesn't discuss homosexuality. He was concerned with soul development, not private parts' sexual identity. A gays soul can be developed just as well as a straight persons.
The uninformed Christian has decided that Jesus's Law is Hebrew law, despite Jesus saying you can't put his new wine into an old wineskin. On the other hand, Jesus gives a not impossible to understand parable which explains how his Law works...and ironically the example is someone who can't get along with another. You have to wonder how the Christians in the article don't realize they're violating Jesus's Law by not getting along with those they've decided are inimical to Christian values!

(22,511 posts)There is no need for critics. Be whatever you want. Think whatever you want. My explanations are not to change anyone. My purpose is to call out those who are ignorant and, therefore, often unchristian under the banner of Christianity. Sincere apologies if I offend.

(6,831 posts)Stay the fuck out of my state, you fucking freak.
Stay in North Carolina - you and your ten children. We neither need nor want you morally and ethically bankrupt christianistas coming to WA and parading the hatred of your religion on us. You republicans lost the moral high ground a long time ago. Don't think for a moment that we will allow you to come out here and preach your ugly hatred to our young gay teens.
