That's because those documents, known as H-2Bs, are limited to 66,000 per year across the country. The program allows seasonal employees working outside agriculture — mostly in fields such as housekeeping, landscaping and amusement parks — to stay in the country for a year.

In past years, returning workers such as those employed by Massie didn't count against the cap. But last year, Congress didn't reauthorize that exemption.

Alpine isn't alone. Many small businesses in communities that rely on seasonal tourism are also affected...................................

Earlier this month, the Department of Homeland Security said it would offer extra visas. Congress had authorized the agency to increase the number available for the 2017 fiscal year as part of the spending bill it passed in May.

A department spokesperson told The Associated Press that the agency expects to start issuing the visas as soon as late July. The visas will be available to employers that demonstrate they will be significantly harmed if they cannot hire the temporary foreign workers, the AP reported...........................

1. You cannot have it both ways (unless you have connections...like perhaps being a Trump Resort)

Pay a better wage and some non-foreign workers might consider working your temporary seasonal jobs. But your business model does not work if you increase your "hospitality" budget? Time to change the business model, run on less profit, or close shop....you certainly would never come come begging the government to help provide you with affordable foriegn (egads!) labor because you are self made and independent and not a "taker".

So tired of the hipocracy.

2. wondered how the dells was doing it

in the past foreign students had a real hold on summer employment
have a vacation trailer up there and my oldest thought about working out of it for a summer but he did not get many nibbles on employment as he called around so he stayed local at his part time job....well in all honesty he might have not been as excited at the option of living by himself working full time instead of working here part time with all his friends close by...
i would have jumped at the chance when i was his age....but then again he and i got along better than my father and i did
