Eleven Democrats and one Republican agreed Monday that Republican Gov. Scott Walker needs to find another job.
And each of the 12 candidates thought they would be the perfect choice to replace Walker next year.
The candidates took seats in two rows in the forum that drew over 120 people to the VFW Post 305 in Eau Claire. The forum itself was hosted by the Wisconsin Alliance for Retired Americans, Wisconsin Farmers Union, Wisconsin AFL-CIO, and AFSCME sub-chapter 63.
It was a taste of Wisconsins upcoming political season. If the candidates stick in the race, they will be in the partisan primary, the third election of the year, on Tuesday, Aug. 14. The winner of the Democratic and Republican primaries will advance to the November general election.
Walker was elected in 2010, survived a recall attempt in June 2012 and was re-elected in 2014. The governor made a failed attempt to run for president last year and now is seeking another term as governor.
I went to the same high school as Scott Walker. Obviously we took different classes, quipped Democratic candidate Mahlon Mitchell, president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin, and an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor during the 2012 recall. Mitchell said he intends to raise wages in the state and create jobs.
Other participating Democrats included Michelle Dolan, Tony Evers, Matt Flynn, Michele Doolan, Andy Gronik, Bob Harlow, Mike McCabe, Dave Heaster, Kelda Helen Roys, Jeff Rumbaugh and Dana Wachs.
The lone Republican at the forum was Ryan Cason. Im running for governor to end abortion and homosexual marriage, said Cason, who said he is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Evers is superintendent of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and a member of the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents. Presently, Im being sued by the governor of the state of Wisconsin, Evers said, over the powers of the office. He said the state has to value high-quality public education.....................................

(28,817 posts)I remember him from the recall. Of course other names are familiar. We all need to research each of these prospective candidates. The election is so important to get right.
For me, we need a lot more charisma, fire (no pun intended, Mahlon), and no DINOs. I want a wonk, with great ideas but has the charisma to persuade people. For me, that's been sorely lacking in the last gubernatorial races.
