Wisconsin Supreme Court overturns statewide mask mandate

The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Wednesday blocked Democratic Gov. Tony Evers from issuing any new public health emergency orders to mandate face masks without the approval of the Republican-controlled state Legislature.

In a 4-3 decision, conservative justices in the majority declared the statewide mask mandate invalid and ruled Evers exceeded his authority in issuing multiple emergency declarations over the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Evers used the emergency orders to require face coverings be worn indoors statewide after lawmakers opted not to.

Evers said in a statement his actions during the pandemic have aimed to "keep Wisconsinites healthy and safe, and I’ve trusted the science and public health experts to guide our decision making."

I live in northern Illinois, maybe 30 minutes from the Wisconsin state line, and the Dairy State has some of my favorite close-to-home travel destinations. But crap like this really makes me not want to go there any time soon, even when my husband and I are fully vaccinated.

I am SO grateful to live in a state with both a Democratic governor and a Dem controlled statehouse. Wisconsin's Gov. Evers has tried SO hard through this whole pandemic and keeps getting thwarted by the GOP covidiots in his state. This really pisses me off.

Try the Saint Croix River (borders WI and MN) area like Taylor's Falls on North to Duluth, and beyond. I live in Wisconsin and always tell people not to come here.

The conservative incumbent who comes up then, Patience Roggensack, will be close to 83 and almost certainly will not run again. With luck, a great candidate, and lots of hard work we can get a liberal majority on the court.

The GOP of Wisc killed what may be the single most important benefit for low-income seniors in WIsconsin. WisGOP ran straight to it's stacked partisan state Supreme Court to kill it off. They killed it for masks, but also killed the additional food share benefits every low-income senior that has received $200/mo for food, during the pandemic. That benefit will be reduced to $16/mo. The $16 amount is for seniors who do not have dependent children at home.
Do you know anyone over 65yrs, that has dependent children?
Legally assigned dependent children, not the minors the parents 'help out' with; like babysitting, online schooling and the normal support grandparents will always do. These are seniors with minor children at home on a permanent basis. No kids? No food for you!
Can you feed yourself on $16 a month? I didn't think so.

There are over 200,000 homes that will loose this added emergency federal benefit. Because the Wisc GOP Assembly & Senate chose to override Gov Ever's entire emergency order, not just the parts they didn't like. They knew the federal funds, of $50 Million, would also go put all food share costs back into the state budget, instead of the free funds the federal gov't is offering Wisconsin.

Can we say they are doing this ( using the trump's fav whine) just to make Evers look bad?
I don't think so.
I think the WIsc GOP is a group of TeaNuts,Trumpies and likely treasonous Jan 6th Capitol assault supporters whose only considerations is what version of a MAGA hat to wear. They refuse to hold a session on the pandemic to help not only seniors and food share, but small businesses, because the GOP knows employees may be using food share now. We can't have that, can we!

This should be fixed, but I am not holding my breath that I will have food this summer.
I guess a little more ketchup on the 'thoughts & prayers' is the GOP justification for this intentional 'oversight'.
