"To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic...

It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.

What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.

And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand Utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.”
― Howard Zinn

This goes out to all my WI DUers who worked their tails off for this recall and those who couldn't for whatever reasons.

I will always be proud of what we have done over the past 16 months. Never, ever hang your head in shame because we didn't get the results we wanted or deserved.

I will always stand with you in solidarity.

Together, we will find a way out the other side of this hell-hole.

perhaps in a small way...altered the course of history...we have changed the vector of events that were planned and we have prevented other events from occurring...in that sense we are now living in a reality that would have been totally different (and probably far worse) than the one we are experiencing now.

Zinn is right: "...The future is an infinite succession of presents,..." We will, over the next two years create an infinite succession of presents that Snotty Scotty won't like one little bit..and in the process, we will participate actively in writing a much more acceptable future.

Courage.

Forward.
