To quote Gen McAuliffe when the Germans ordered him to surrender at the Battle of the Bulge: "Nuts"

I'm not giving up. I won't quit as long as can still draw breath.

My wonderful sister wrote the following late last night: "Citizens United + corruption + ignorance = lethal for democracy."

She's right of course That is a lethal combination. But we are not yet dead. Here's what I see as our course of action...

First, tackle the corruption. Investigate the many irregularities in this election. How can the following be true?

..Pre-election polls all showed a very tight race.

..New registrations were through the roof, resulting in over 200% turnout in some locales (total votes of new and previously registered voters were twice the number of previously registered voters). New voters typically tend to vote Democratic.

..Exit polls showed a very tight race.

..Exit polls showed President Obama with a substantial margin over Rmoney.

..Yet Scott Walker wins by eight points?

There's something fishy in Denmark, in Holland, in Belgium, in Luxemburg and in other Wisconsin towns and cities (yep, we've got towns with those names). Let's get to the bottom of it. Walker's thugs pulled a lot of dirty tricks like calling petition-signers and telling them they didn't have to vote, like telling people that if they didn't vote in 2010 they weren't permitted to vote in the recall.

What other dirty tricks did they pull? Hand counts need to be compared with electronic totals. This election must be proved legitimate - or not.

Then let's continue to hammer Walker on the John Doe investigation. An indictment cannot be far away.

Secondly, we need to get Citizens United reversed. There are a number of efforts underway to do just that. Without dissecting them all here, I'll simply state that in my opinion if we're going to the trouble of a Constitutional Amendment, it ought to be a complete and utter undoing of big bucks undermining our democracy, regardless of whether those dollars are coming from a corporation, a single wealthy donor, or a non-profit. It also should result in citizens automatically becoming registered voters. See Michael Moore's version here for a good start.

Thirdly, we need to educate the People. I suspect this will continue to be a daunting task until Citizens United is overturned, but we must keep at it. Our futures, and the futures of our children and grandchildren all depend on it. I would also welcome the return of the Fairness Doctrine which would effectively silence Faux Noise.

I don't expect our elected officials to do these things. It will continue to be the responsibility of our grass roots citizenry to push for the investigations, to push for the Constitutional Amendment and to educate our friends and neighbors.

I will never give up. Never. Please join me.

3. You believe that, but your need to convince us with evidence.

Without evidence "We was robbed!" is an emotional line in a script, not the thesis of an opening statement to a jury.

6. Who's got you on their payroll? Why do you believe that this election was fair?

I've given you my reasons for being skeptical. All you're telling me is to shut up. I've never understood why the Democrats simply roll over when it comes to election fraud -- especially when their supporters want an investigation. I guess the Democrats' supporters don't have the deep pockets to pay off people like the Republicans do.

7. Where's your evidence it was rigged?

You forget we went through a recount just over a year ago and we found no significant discrepancies that couldn't be accounted for by Operator Error. Seems to me that's significant evidence that widespread "rigging" isn't taking place.

So you'll actually have to cough up some evidence to the contrary.

8. You mean the Waukesha vote rigging? Here's the thing, the voters don't buy that the SC election

WASN'T rigged. I heard the Repug and Dem side being all lovey dovey about the investigation, but neither side explained why the bag of ballots was OK? They didn't reasonably explain anything. They DID both say that we HAVE to believe that elections are fair. That was imperative.

What was implied by the imperative is that this whole house of cards falls if voters don't feel like their votes are being counted. Well the hand is overplayed, and voters don't believe that votes are counted.

Don't just ask me. Go over to Europe, or anywhere in the world, and they'll tell you that they don't believe our elections are fair.

9. One county's incompetent/morally corrupt clerk doesn't add up to widespread rigging.

There are 72 counties in this state. Try again.

10. And I'd love to see a poll that says the voters don't buy the SC election wasn't rigged.

I'm sure you have a link for that handy, right?

11. Exit polls show that Obama will win WI by 12 pts or more, and those same people

voted for Walker. Riiighht.

Had you lived in the USSR, I'm certain you would have believed every poll published by Pravda.

12. the exit polling you comment on is a VERY real issue.

Personally I think it suggests several possible causes.

1. Independent moderate voters were against the recall on the grounds that recalls are wrong.

2. Independent moderate voters felt that both Walker and Obama are pushing to fix the economy, and Barrett was an empty sock.

3. Other

13. I believe it because I don't have evidence to the contrary. Ever hear of Occam's Razor?

The null hypothesis here is that no one did anything.

If you want to argue that somone(s) did something, then the burden is on you to show that.

It's elementary.

Maybe too elementary?

4. Unfortunately I think we lost for two reasons
Wed Jun 6, 2012, 09:14 AM
Jun 2012

1. General anti-recall attitude / election fatigue

2. We didn't GOTV in presidential numbers. There were just over 2 million votes, just like in 2010. We need more people to vote, that is how we win.

Yes there were some high turnouts in Madison, but young rural voters, voters in Milwaukee, etc didn't make up the difference.

2. If I live to fight another day

then I haven't completely lost and I will be fighting on. The only way to stop me is to kill me. I am Irish, after all, and a Democrat!

Thank you for your tireless efforts! You and many others! I remain inspired by your efforts. You fought for what was right. That matters more than I can say.

Ready for battle!
