Fitzgerald recall nears needed number of signatures

Jan. 12, 2012 12:32 p.m. | The organizer of a recall effort against state Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) says volunteers have collected at least 16,000 of the 16,742 signatures needed to force Fitzgerald into a recall election.

Lori Compas says the state Democratic Party has diverted volunteers from other Senate recall districts for one last push this weekend to build up enough of a cushion of extra signatures to survive the inevitable challenges from Fitzgerald's camp. "They've decided they have the numbers they need elsewhere," she said.

Compas and her volunteers have been running the Fitzgerald recall signature effort independent of the Democratic Party, which has focused on recalling Gov. Scott Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and three other Republican state senators. The other senators — Pam Galloway of Wausau, Terry Moulton of Chippewa Falls and Van Wanggaard of Racine — are considered more vulnerable than Fitzgerald to being defeated in recall elections.

being responsible and being culpable. All that legislation simply would NOT have happened without this guy to enable it and violate laws & established procedures when necessary.

I know there's strategic reasons for why Dems decided to go after some of those other senators but gosh darn it - sometimes the RIGHT thing to do isn't always the EASIEST thing to do...

Just getting enough sigs to force Scott Fitzgerald to stand for recall is an amazing achievement in that District.
