Related: About this forumWisconsin: Walker steps in doo doo, Feds suspend block grant program
Coverage thanks to Blue Cheddar.
Even worse than the press let on: Feds letter to DOA suspends block grant program, says WEDC not state agency
Badger Democracy has obtained a letter from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development Milwaukee Office (HUD) dated May 17, 2012 to Department of Administration (DOA) Secretary Mike Huebsch. HUD was not just critical of DOA/State oversight of the new Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC); the federal agency suspended the critical Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
The agency went so far as to state that WEDC is not an instrumentality of the state.
Also from the HUD letter: The CDBG program is defined incorrectly under the Agreement. Local Governmental Units are not required to pay back grant funds to the state. They are grants.
I am enraged by the notion that the State of Wisconsin, with WEDC illegally working as its agent, has been misinforming communities telling them that federal grant monies arent really theirs to keep.
And more coverage from Cognitive Dissidence.
"In Corporate Fitzwalkerstan"
In a strongly worded Aug. 12 letter to Department of Administration Secretary Mike Huebsch, federal officials said two state agencies failed to follow federal law and their own policies in issuing economic development grants.
Among the findings:
The state gave out aid worth $20,000 per job created to Kapco, a company with a plant in Polk County twice as much as its own policies allow./LI.
Officials failed to check the financial soundness of two companies receiving $1.4 million in federal grants.
Eleven out of 20 loans using Community Development Block Grant funds awarded since Jan. 1, 2011, are "forgivable," despite the fact that the state's own policy calls for allowing businesses to get no-payback loans only in "extraordinary circumstances."
Questions remain about an $8.6 million chunk of CDBG funds withdrawn under unusual circumstances late last year.
Everything Walker does is "questionable", at best, more likely criminal. I'm just sick that this pathetic excuse for a human being is still my State's Governor.
I can't wait for the indictments to start rolling in on Walker and his associates.
